The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) is insisting that science teachers no longer use “oppressive” words such as “mother,” “father,” “man,” “woman,” and “parent” while in the classroom.
The world’s largest association of science teachers recently published a guide containing a full list of “anti-oppression” vocabulary that axes traditional gender and sex descriptors and replaces them with strange terminology such as “XY individuals” to describe men and “persons with testes” to describe fathers.
Entitled “Gender-Inclusive Biology: A framework in action,” the guide refers to mothers as “persons with ovaries,” reducing what it means to be a female to rote reproductive terminology. The guide also celebrates men competing in women’s sports, calling states that instead push “sex verification in sports” as an example of oppression.
Not only are these proposed changes certifiably insane, but they also raise some serious First Amendment issues, said Jonathan Turley. (Related: CNN says that there is no way to know a baby’s gender at birth, despite the child’s sex organs.)
“We have already seen successful litigation challenging mandatory pronoun usage, including the recent litigation involving a teacher in Loudoun County, Virginia,” he wrote on his website.
“Yet we have also seen new cases, including the charging of three high school students for not using preferred pronouns.”
In order to make the changes more appealing to children, the NSTA is proposing what it describes as fun exercises that encourage little ones to come up with new names for their parents such as “gene-givers” or “biological life transmitters.”
Anything to avoid actually referring to male or female, or mother or father, is considered acceptable by the NSTA, even if teachers, students and students’ parents disagree with this new form of brainwashing.
While none of what the NSTA is proposing would be mandatory, this writer can foresee a future in which this kind of thing does get mandated once it gets its foot in the door and begins to change the mindset and language culture of a school.
As explained in one news article about the subject, such guides have been seen in the expanding list of words and phrases that are considered “offensive” or “hateful,” and worthy of punishment.
We are already seeing this happen with so-called “gender pronouns,” as students and teachers who refuse to use them at certain far-left institutions are being accused of engaging in “hate” or committing “microaggressions” against others.
“This is so stupid that it makes your teeth hurt,” wrote one commenter at En-Volve.com about how absolutely ridiculous these NSTA recommendations truly are. “But wait! What about parents who are not gene donors or women who have lost their ovaries? And on and on and on. Find love where you like, folks. It doesn’t change biology. No Ministry of Truth can do that, or haven’t you noticed?”
Another wrote that no true science teacher would ever use such language because it is inherently unscientific.
“Any and all teachers who support this BS need to be fired, lose all pensions, benefits, and their teaching licenses,” suggested someone else.
Others asked why teachers cannot just teach the subjects they are instructed to teach and avoid delving into gender insanity. Do students really need to be brainwashed with this kind of nonsense?
“Science teachers used to be rational, logical, careful people capable of making fresh new discoveries,” added another.
“This batch is just goofy and incapable of forming reasonable opinions or imagining new, more positive solutions to problems when the propaganda machine makes it easier to avoid using their intellects.”
